History of Evergreen Cemetery

The Evergreen Cemetery Association of Bristol, NY was founded and incorporated in 1888, and today we have direct descendants of these founders on our board of directors.

Some of the problems faced by our forefathers, such as overnighting tramps and beggars, do not exist today. However, many of their concerns, such as wrought iron cemetery fencing, grass and tree maintenance, gravestone maintenance and vandalism are continuing even today.

We have many notables buried in Evergreen including those killed in service to our Country in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  Our veterans' graves are marked each Memorial Day with an American Flag. Please visit the Town of Bristol website to view a detailed listing of the gravesites.

Monument United Church of Bristol

The most visual monument and family, the Newton, not only served on our Board (1925) but also left a permanent trust to benefit both the cemetery and our neighboring Church, once a Universalist Church and now a United Church of Christ Denomination.  This Church consists of members of the Methodist, Congregational, and Universalist Churches which combined into the United Church of Christ.

Today we have acquired land for an expansion and new section when needed. We are also proposing a gazebo for quiet meditation in our lower section, new and repainted fencing, and ongoing repairs, maintenance and reseting of gravestones.

Donations are encouraged and help tremendously in the care and upkeep of Evergreen. Please contact a Board Member if you need additional information.
